My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Zuma Zuma!

Lily's Farm  From Home

Kody's Adventure Out West

Sophie's Dophin Adventure in Mexico
What a terrific week it has been!  Nice weather, some great shares from vacations over break, extra recess, and a fantastic field trip to the Flynn to see "Zuma, Zuma"!  Be sure to ask your child about this terrific performance.
Our Social Studies unit finished up this week with Hyperstudio presentations by all first and second graders.  Please enjoy this slide show of these presentations:

We also welcomed our new classmate, Solie. She has been such a nice addition to our class!
We will have two more weeks of homework and that will be it for the school year!  Homework for the next two weeks will NOT include a reading record to be signed.  Hopefully, nightly reading has become a regular routine at this point.
During the next two weeks we will finish up our Farm Unit, begin a unit called "The Best of Bugs: Designing Hand Pollinators" in Science and continue our narrative work in Reader's and Writer's Workshops.  We look forward to our last Hands On Nature lesson this Friday.
Please check this week's Friday Folder for information regarding some end of year activities.  Firefly Spirit Days will be posted at a later time on the blog.  These will take place the last week of school.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather!
