My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

We enjoyed a terrific Hands On Nature lesson about bees and pollination this week.  We learned about insect parts, the honey bee dance and enjoyed honey and crackers at the end of the lesson. This was our last Hands On Nature lesson of the school year.  A huge thank you to our Hands On Nature parents for helping us learn more about nature this year.
We also began our new Science unit about insects, plants, pollination and agricultural engineering.  What a nice connection to Hands On Nature!  At the end of this unit we will be designing our own hand pollinators.
We finished our Farm Unit in math this week. We celebrated today by inviting Mrs. Nakhleh's class and Pam Cyr's fifth grade class to come see our farms.  This was a wonderful opportunity to share our learning with our peers.  The farms are coming home today.  Everyone is so excited to share with their families!  Please take some time over the weekend to take a look at all the hard work that went into your child's farm.  They all did a fantastic job!
Once again, this will be the last week for homework!  My hope is that everyone will continue to read daily through the summer.  I would also like everyone to continue to work hard on Fastt Math.  Other than that, homework is to play and have fun outdoors!
Have a great weekend!
