My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Jogathon and Sophie Finishes Fastt Math!

Tuesday was a terrific day for the Jogathon.  We ran around the school circle for our jogging time and spent some time cheering for other classes while we weren't jogging.  We enjoyed an outdoor lunch on the playground with all the other elementary classes and spent some time dancing to music being played by the DJ.  Everyone did a fantastic job and had a fantastic time!
Today we celebrated Sophie's accomplishment of finishing Fastt Math addition.  Mr. Madden joined our class to present Sophie with her certificate.  Sophie will now move on to subtraction.  I have challenged the class to work hard and do their Fastt Math daily this summer to see if we can get everyone ready for subtraction in second grade.
As part of Movement May our class spent some time today doing Zumba and Hula Hooping.  It was a nice way to finish off Movement May.
This Wednesday, June 5th is our Firefly Team Picnic.  Please bring your own meal and beverages and join us at the Shelburne Beach at 5:30.  We will be celebrating summer birthdays at the team picnic.
K-2 Field Day T-shirts came home yesterday in backpacks.  Please make sure your child wears his/her T-shirt to school on Tuesday, June 11th for the K-2 Field Day.  If you are interested in volunteering, please send me an email sometime this week.  We already have four people signed up to help out.  Please look in this week's Friday Folder for a list of end of year events for the Firefly Team.  The week of June 10th will be Spirit Week for us.  Monday will be "Wacky Hair Day", Tuesday will be "Be a Reader Beach Day", Wednesday will be "Board Game Day" and Thursday will be "Backwards Day".  Friday, June 14th is the last day of school.  It is a half day with an 11:35 dismissal time.
