My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Have a Terrific Summer!

Firefly did not let all the rain keep us from a fun filled last week of school.  We enjoyed theme days filled with games and activities.  Today's Friday Folder includes your child's progress report and another summer reading list.
I am planning to be in my classroom on July 24th from 9 am-1 pm.  I am inviting any students who are interested, to drop by and read a book or a few pages of a book to me on that day so we can celebrate their continued reading progress during the summer.  If your child is interested in doing this, please send me an email sometime before that week.
This has been a terrific year of learning for our class.  I have been amazed by the progress my friends have made socially and academically.  Everyone is ready and eager to be second graders.  I feel very lucky to be spending another year teaching such terrific kids and being connected to such amazing families.
Have a fantastic summer!

The Last Week Events

It was terrific to see everyone at our team picnic Wednesday night.  A huge thank you to everyone for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend this event!  A big thank you to Maura Crawford for this fantastic photo of the picnic!

Zoe did a terrific Discovery Table Presentation about bears this week.  Her family will be traveling to Glacier National Park this summer, so hopefully they will get a chance to see some bears...at a distance!

Please make sure your child wears his/her T-shirt to school on Tuesday, June 11th for the K-2 Field Day.  The week of June 10th will be Spirit Week for us.  Monday will be "Wacky Hair Day", Tuesday will be "Be a Reader Beach Day", Wednesday will be "Board Game Day" and Thursday will be "Backwards Day".  Friday, June 14th is the last day of school.  It is a half day with an 11:35 dismissal time.

Please check this week's Friday Folder for a summer reading list and reading log.

I am also sending home several chapter books with each student today.  These books are from the school library and were being discarded.  They are yours to keep.

Have a great weekend!
