My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Zoe Finishes Fastt Math!

Firefly First Grade worked hard this week finishing up our assessments.  Both Literacy and Math are now completed and everyone did a fantastic job in both areas.  We now look forward to spending the remainder of the school year reviewing and extending our learning in all areas of the curriculum.
We also look forward to the rescheduled Jog-a-thon on Tuesday of this coming week.  A reminder to send your children to school that day dressed appropriately, already sun screened and with a water bottle.  With any luck this wet weather will move out of the area by then.
Unfortunately our School Outreach visit from Shelburne Farms has had to be cancelled due to the Jog-a-thon rescheduling.  We are working with Shelburne Farms to try to find an alternative date for this, however they are pretty booked at this time of year and it may not be possible.
This week we will finish up our Science Unit about pollination by using the knowledge we have gained through this unit to act as agricultural engineers and create our own hand pollinators.
Congratulations to Zoe for finishing Fastt Math addition.  She will now join Claire in working on subtraction.  I can't wait to see who is our next hard worker to persevere through all those lessons and have the opportunity to feel proud of this accomplishment. I know there are several students who are very close to moving to subtraction!
I hope everyone has a terrific long weekend!
