My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Our First Week of School!

Wow! What a wonderful first week of school we have had!  We have been busy getting to know each other, and creating a community where we can feel happy, safe and comfortable taking risks.  We have created self-portraits, hopes and dreams, and our classroom promise.  We have been talking about "warm fuzzies", "cold prickleys" and "I.A.L.A.C.s, and learning about how important it is to use "warm fuzzies" when we speak to our classmates. We have also been spending our time getting used to routines and doing team building activities with the other Firefly classes.  It has been a lot of fun getting to know your amazing children!
Next week we will begin to ease  into the curriculum.  We will begin our Reader's and Writer's Workshops, and have our first Number Corner and Math lesson.  We will also continue to work on building a strong classroom community.
Our Curriculum Night will be Wednesday, September 17th.  Please ignore the September 16th date that is on the school calendar.  We will begin at 5 pm in our classroom space to talk about important team information, then move to the cafeteria at 5:30 pm for a 1/2 curriculum presentation.
Have a fantastic long weekend!
