My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Evacuation Drill

Today SCS participated in an evacuation drill.  All K-8 staff and students walked to the Field House for this procedure to practice and prepare for the possibility of a real evacuation in the future.  Everyone did a terrific job during this important procedure.
In science this week we learned about various problems apple tree farmers face with pest management and how they are able to solve those problems through Integrated Pest Management.  Ask your child why Integrated Pest Management is a good solution for farmers to use.
Our class spent a lot of time doing spring assessments this week.  We completed our fact fluency assessment, the Common Math Assessment for first grade and have also been working on Literacy Assessments.  We will continue with Literacy Assessments and hopefully finish up by the end of next week.
A reminder that the Jog-A-Thon will take place this Thursday.  Please remember to send your child with a water bottle, sneakers, and appropriate clothing.  Please also sunscreen your child before they come to school that day.
