My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

A Visit from Jon Gailor

This week Macy, from Pam's class, did her science table about jellyfish.  We learned that there are very small jellyfish that are deadly and that some jellyfish can be 8ft. across and 200 ft. long.  Nice job, Macy!

On Wednesday, Jon Gailor came to our kiva and performed a bunch of songs for the Adventurers and Dragonfly teams.  He gave everyone a chance to join in and become a part of this musical performance.  It was a great morning of fun and singing.

We will be finishing up our geometry unit before break.  Our next and last unit of the year will be "My Little Farm" and will focus on money,  place value and mapping.  We will also be moving on from response to text to narrative writing after the spring break.

It has been terrific to have each student share one of his/her favorite stories this week.  It is great to see the confidence everyone has developed in reading and the ease with which they now read to the class.  We look forward to having the rest of the class share their favorite stories over the next few weeks.

We are looking forward to our field trip to Shelburne Farms next Friday (4/15).  This field trip will connect to and extend our learning about plants and trees in science.  Please make sure your child comes to school with a pocket snack  (snack that fits in their pocket) and bag lunch that day as we will not be back to school for our regular lunch time.  Please dress your child appropriately for a morning of outdoor activities.  We are looking for chaperones for this field trip so please send me an email if you are interested in chaperoning.  We will be leaving school by 8:30 am and returning at 12:15 pm.
