My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

This week we continued our sharing of our favorite books.  It has been so fun to see the different kinds of books all our friends have chosen to share.  We will continue with our book shares after our spring vacation.

Jordan shared her science table about making maple syrup this week.  She taught us lots of interesting things about how maple syrup is made.  We learned how the sap is collected, how it takes A LOT of sap to make just a little syrup and she showed us examples of different syrups.  Jordan's family makes their own maple syrup and is lucky enough to enjoy that throughout the year.  Terrific job, Jordan!

Our class has learned about a new, fun way to practice our math facts on the computer.  This program is called "Fastt Math", can be found on the SCS website and done from your home computer.  I am assigning it as the math homework over vacation.  Your child will probably be able to go on and find it, but just in case he/she can't, these are the directions:  From the SCS website go to "Curriculum", click on "Math", then click on "Fastt Math".  Your child's username is their first, then last name with no spaces.  The password is "student".  If you don't have access to a computer at home, please let me know and I will find an alternative for your child to do to practice his/her math facts.  This is meant to be a fun way for everyone to practice their facts, so please just follow your child's lead with how much time they would like to spend doing this.

I hope everyone has a terrific vacation!
