My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Firefly Second Grade enjoyed a fun, outdoor Hands On Nature lesson about frogs this week.  We walked to the frog pond and spent some time looking for frogs.  We caught several different kinds of frogs and even caught a turtle!  It was a fantastic adventure that everyone enjoyed.  Many thanks to Anne Marcoe and Jamie O'Brien for providing this terrific learning opportunity for us.
The month of May is "Movement May" and our class has been doing all kinds of activities to get moving.  Everyone is loving dance party movement and today we had some fun doing Zumba with Miss Niles.
On Friday, May 23rd, our class will be visiting Shelburne Farms to learn about "Long Ago".  We will leave in the morning and arrive back at school at 1:30.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for a visit to the farm and has been sunscreened before they come to school.  We will be eating at the farm so please make sure your child also has a lunch from home to eat that day.
The Jog-a-thon will be Tuesday,  May 27th.  We will run in the morning and be doing other fun activities with other classes throughout the day.  Please make sure your child comes to school in appropriate clothing and wearing sneakers that day.  They should also be sunscreened before they come to school as we will be spending much of our day outside.
I hope everyone has a terrific weekend!
