My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Our First Week as Second Graders

Firefly Second Grade has had a terrific start to our school year! We have been busy doing team building activities with the Firefly First Graders so we can get to know them better.  We have also been doing a terrific job of taking our second grade responsibilities seriously and modeling what everything should look like and sound like for first graders.  In addition to that, we have created our Hopes and Dreams for the school year, and created some beautiful self portraits that show how much we have grown and matured since the beginning of first grade when we did our first self portraits.  We have also been busy creating a bulletin board that shares what we are excited about for the the upcoming year.  We have reviewed rules and routines and managed to master how dismissal from Unified Arts will look already.
Please check today's Friday Folder for information regarding dismissal this year.  Second graders will be dismissed directly from Unified Arts and have specific routes they should be taking to get to the bus, Part 2, pick-up and any other places they will be going at dismissal.  It is very important that I know in writing what your plans are for dismissal in the morning so I can forward that information to Unified Arts teachers.  If plans change last minute, please call Esther in the office and she will notify me so I can get that information to Unified Arts teachers.
Please be sure to return Family Information sheets to school as well as other forms required by the main office and health office.  Also, please mark your calendar for September 17th for the 1/2 Curriculum Night.
I look forward to another fantastic year working and learning with your children!
