My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Jog-a-thon

This week Sam did his Discovery table about  Optical Illusions.  We learned how the eye works and why it is tricked by optical illusions.  We had a chance to look at some optical illusions, gather data about them and create a graph comparing what boys and girls saw.   If you are interested in doing more exploring about optical illusions, you can find them at:   http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/games/illusions/index.htmGreat job, Sam!

Thursday was the Jog-a-thon.  We had terrific weather for this event.  We spent our jogging time doing laps around the school circle, then enjoyed lunch outside and music and dancing.  It was a terrific day of fun!

Next Friday will be the K-2 Field Day.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for this event.  They should wear sneakers and bring a water bottle and hat.  Please make sure they apply sunscreen before they come to school that day.

The week of June 4th will be Spirit Week for the Firefly Team.  Please check the list of upcoming events on the blog to see what we will be doing each day that week.

If you're at the Vermont City Marathon this weekend, be sure to cheer on team "Running On Principals".  I will be running with Jenn Niles, Megan Maynard, Liz Rider and Allegra Miller.  We chose our team name to celebrate Allegra's years of dedication to SCS!
