My Philosophy

I believe it is important to create a community where all learners feel safe, respected and have a sense of belonging. It is important to focus equally on the social, emotional and academic needs of students. I strive to meet children where they're at by differentiating instruction, choosing developmentally appropriate activities and providing a balance between teacher-directed and self-directed learning. I value play, the arts, movement, creativity and laughter as important and meaningful parts of the learning process for children.

Apple Tasting

We spent this week finishing up our "Exploring Shapes, Symmetry and Area" unit during Math. We will move into a unit about working with larger numbers, including money and place value toward the end of next week.  In literacy we began new chapter books, worked on some assessments and focused on grammar and mechanics during Writers Workshop. During Fundations we focused on ir, er, and ur.
Nathan, from Mrs. Nakhleh's class, did a terrific Discovery Table presentation about apples and decomposition on Monday.  Today his mother brought in apples for us to taste and decide on our favorite.  Our favorite was the Pinata.  A big thank you to Nathan and his family for this fun activity!

Bird Migration Dance

On a light note, Mira performed her bird migration dance for us today.  I decided to to kick off the new year with my annual juggling act and headstand performance, leading the class to give me the title of "Circus Teacher" this week.
Have a great weekend!
